The Senior Network Engineer designs, maintains and adjusts the Guiding Care networks to ensure maximum uptime, thorough monitoring, auditing, and the continuous review of network performance and security. This role is considered 40% operational, 40% technical and 20% incidental from a day-to-day perspective. Operations are day-to-day activities, supporting users and customers ensuring quality of service. Technical activities are those where underlying service delivery and maintenance activities are required to ensure sustainability of the services provided. 20% being incidental are general activities that may require time spent in either the operational or technical role.
What you will do:
Manage the implementation of IT Networking strategy for the organization
Lead the maintenance and administration of computer networks and related computing environments including computer networking hardware, software, applications, and the related configurations
Perform configuration backups and testing of backup restoration
Responsible for Network documentation and Network configuration scripting for automated deployment
Responsible for disaster recovery testing and scenario planning. Ability to perform when needed in the event of a failure requiring restoration of services
Oversee the diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving of hardware, software, or other network and system problems, and replace defective components when necessary
Responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing network security measures to protect data, software, and hardware
Responsible for a secure network by developing network access, monitoring, control, evaluation and maintaining documentation
Manage the diagnosing of causes of failures and performs corrective or preventive maintenance
Manage network performance to identify areas of opportunity for efficiency and growth
Deliver client services such as L2L, VPN service and Metro Ethernet where applicable and be able to determine use case with client
Establish and deliver reporting and services regarding health and capacity to the business
Perform other duties as assigned
Fully applies basic principles, theories, and concepts to job assignments.
Exhibits technical and operational proficiency solving highly complex problems.
Contributes to completion and documentation of projects and programs in area of expertise.
May interface with internal and/or external customers.
Mentors and trains other networking and security personnel.
What you bring:
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field
Master’s Degree preferred
5-7 years of related work experience
Proven experience in a network administrator role
Mastery of LAN/WAN routing and switching, load balancing, and network support
Mastery of VPN connectivity for a complex enterprise
Experience with network security, monitoring auditing and forensic response
Experience with disaster recovery and high availability support
Sense of ownership and responsibility towards problems and solutions
Advanced problem-solving skills to identify and resolve complex issues in a timely manner
Hands-on experience in networking, routing, and switching
Familiarity with backup and recovery software and methodologies
Experience in the healthcare industry preferred
Expert knowledge of TCP/IP, IPSEC, SNMP, Syslog, HTTP(S), SSH, DHCP, DNS, RDP, LDAP, ICMP, SMTP and standard routing protocols
Ability to direct others and lead work
Sufficient ability to manage Cisco networking devices (IOS certification or equivalent)
Sufficient ability to manage Palo-Alto networking devices (certification or equivalent)
Adequate knowledge in Visio, Word, Excel, or equivalent tools
Ability to be on-call may be requested to work after hours
Understanding of network monitoring and auditing tools
Expert knowledge of SSH, Ping, MTR, DNS, Telnet required
